“I had not danced before, but I was drawn to dance as a form of expression and a way to make exercise more engaging. I'd tried dancing at a couple of places where ‘beginner’ didn't actually mean beginner. I didn't have a typical dancer physique and was worried I'd be made to feel uncomfortable when my goal was learning and getting stronger, not changing my body type.

“Thankfully, none of these worries were a problem for me at A-Glow! I've loved both the Ballet Basics and Ballet Basics+ dance series. The Studio Owner, Amanda, is great at leveling and has consistently kept me challenged but not overwhelmed. The instructors are very welcoming and knowledgeable about modifications to safely teach new skills to people in grown-up bodies.

“Dancing at A-Glow regularly has improved my balance, given my musicality more dimension, and improved my strength. It's also improved my body image. I can celebrate my body for what it can accomplish instead of worrying about my body's shape or size. I look forward to continuing to dance at A-Glow and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to explore dance!”

FAQs

  • If you’ve never danced before, you’re in for a treat! We are so excited that you’re considering beginning your dance journey at A-Glow. Our favorite series for beginners is Ballet Basics because it offers a foundational introduction to steps and terminology used in various styles and classes. We also offer a dance sampler series called "Let's Dance!" for dancers who have been away from dance for many years but are comfortable moving and retaining simple choreography. If you're interested in trying tap, Tap 1 is the place to begin, and we have private Tap Basics sessions if you need a little extra preparation before joining the class.

  • If you have never tap danced before, we offer 45-minute private tap instruction sessions to prepare you to successfully enter our Tap 1 course. Most new tap dancers need between one and three private sessions before starting Tap 1. Please reach out via our Contact page or email aglowdanceandfitness@gmail.com to learn more.

  • If you have never danced before, we offer a two-session ballet quick start to prepare you with a basic understanding of three foundational barre exercises: plié, tendu, and dégagé. After completing your two 45-minute classes, you’ll be ready to join the current session of Ballet Basics as space allows. Please reach out via our Contact page or email aglowdanceandfitness@gmail.com to learn more.

  • Yes! It's common and expected to repeat a series for multiple sessions before moving up a level. Some dancers even stay in a series because they enjoy it and it fits their schedule. There is always room to improve your technique and fitness, regardless of the class level you are taking!

  • Missing a class or two is acceptable due to illness or other engagements. We ask that you email the studio or use the StudioBookings app to let us know if you plan to be absent so we don’t worry about you! If you notify us of your absence at least 12 hours before your class, we can assist you in scheduling a makeup if space allows. Makeup classes are not guaranteed for series classes and must be completed before the end of your series.

  • We want you to feel comfortable moving in class. Workout or dance attire are equally acceptable—many students wear leggings or joggers with a t-shirt or workout top. We ask that you secure your hair away from your face so you can move safely without it being in your way. Your footwear depends on the dance style; additional details and recommendations can be found here and in an email, you’ll receive upon registration.

  • A-Glow's Owner and Artistic Director, Amanda Money, holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy and trains instructors to offer modifications for all bodies and abilities. If you have specific questions or concerns, please reach out directly via our Contact page, and we’ll be happy to help!

  • We want to make starting to dance as stress-free and exciting as possible. Contact us to inquire about your options for using your $30 Trial Class to check out a series, schedule, and space dependent.
